Powerful Women in History

March is recognized as National Women's History month. With this past Monday, March 8, being International Women's Day, I wanted to make a post highlighting some amazing women throughout time that made a difference in the world.
The first woman I want to recognize is Marie Curie. Marie Curie was an exceptional scientist and her discoveries helped uncover effective remedies for cancer. She was the second person ever to receive a Noble Prize.
Next I would like to talk about Amelia Earhart. Amelia was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic and continued to break the flying records.
Rosa Parks was a prominent woman in history after she refused to give up her seat and sparked the civil rights movement, which led to winning equal rights in the 1960's.
The final person I want to give a shout out to is the current Vice President Kamala Harris. She is making waves in the political world as the first woman and first Asian American vice president.
At Eleven22, we have a great team of wonderful women working hard to accomplish our goals and dreams. We are inspired by strong women of our past and look forward to all the good change they can do for our future.

Ways to Stay Active in the Winter

Winter can be a hard time for many of us. The days are shorter, the weather is colder, and motivation can be low during this time. Being in a pandemic for almost a year now does not help much at all either. I think something we all need is some inspiration and motivation for our lives. Here are 5 great ways to stay active in this cold, wintery time.
1. Try out yoga at home.
As many people are still feeling uncomfortable in a gym setting with everything going on, being in shape and active is still very important. A trend that has started to arise is doing yoga or Zumba classes at home. There are plenty of YouTube videos out there that can provide you with a fun time while staying active.
2. Go outside.
Not every day of the winter is unbearable. When the sun is shining and the ground is green, the weather can be nice enough to take a casual stroll. It can be a great thing to get in some sunshine, smell the fresh air, and clear your mind. Getting out of the house can also make a huge difference in mood.
3. Take up a winter activity.
Winter sports can be anything from hockey, snowboarding, skiing or anything that you can do in the winter. This can keep you active and be a new hobby to pick up.

These are just some ways to keep yourself active and motivated through the winter months. Luckily, spring is just around the corner, the weather will be warming up, and the days will soon become longer once more! Feel free to comment your favorite way to stay active or motivated in the winter and we can all help each other out during this time. We can do this!

History of Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is on May 10th this year. Every second Sunday in May, people in America celebrate their moms by gifting flowers, cards, and other gifts to show appreciation. This holiday was created by a woman named Anna Jarvis back in 1908 after the passing of her mother to celebrate and honor mothers. In 1914, Mother’s Day became an official U.S. holiday. However, moms have been celebrated all over the world for hundreds of years. Each fall in Ethiopia, families gather to sing songs and eat a feast during their multi-day celebration of motherhood. Here in the U.S. there are more phone calls made on Mother’s Day than any other. So give your mom a call this Mother’s Day to show appreciation for all that mom’s do. Moms make leave such an incredible mark on our lives.

What are some ways your mom has shaped your life?

Spreading Kindness at Home

In light of current world events, it is important to spread kindness when and where you can. It can be as simple as smiling at a stranger or sending flowers to someone, just because. Since many of us are self-isolating and social distancing, here are a few ways to spread kindness in the comfort of your home.
  • Send an encouraging email
Working from home is a new and different concept for many employees. While using computers and technology is common in the workplace now, working at home and trying to communicate through email, zoom and such can be new and confusing to many. One way to spread some kindness is to send an encouraging email to your co-workers, family, and friends. Whether it is a motivational image or a nice message to boost their spirits, a small act of kindness can make a huge difference to those who may be in an uncomfortable situation.

  • Leave a positive review.
Since all non-essential businesses are closed during this time, you can spread kindness by leaving a positive review for your favorite small business, restaurant, or product. There are many ways to leave a great review. Google, Yelp, Facebook and more allow you to leave a review. Even if they are not open, receiving a positive review can brighten their day.

  • Share some good news
In a time of confusion and negativity, simply sharing some good news can make a big difference. For example, Wales released news that it is building a large new national forest to restore the land and help fight against global warming. With social media pages being flooded with all kinds of articles and information, seeing some good news can positively impact someone’s mindset.

  • Call a friend or family member
Sometimes, a simple act of kindness can include just giving someone a call to chat. Talking through situations, thoughts, and ideas can leave a person feeling heard. Everyone is going through something, and sometimes just talking about things can really help. So, pick up the phone and call someone today to spread some kindness.

You can do as much or as little as you want when it comes to spreading kindness. So, take a second to think about what you can do to impact someone today. We here at Eleven 22 hope you all are staying safe and healthy and remember, love and kindness are never wasted.
